(Thematic Report) Sustainable Development

by Sainath Manikandan | 07-07-2019 14:17

The concept of ¡°Sustainable Development¡± originated sometimes in 1987. There were many negative effects on our environment due to globalization and economic growth. A report was released in the same year to find and solve these issues and find solutions causing harm to our planet.

We as global citizens must be able to use the resources in a sustainable manner so that our future generations can live sustainably. The prime responsibility lies with us, the present generation to balance between the economic, social growth, taking adequate care of our environment.

We are facing many serious challenges at present. To name a few, water scarcity, hunger, poverty, climate change¡¦. These threats can be resolved only we take measures to promote sustainability.

The United Nations has approved the 2030 Agenda, which contains the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is a call to all of us and to all global citizens to take actions and protect our planet. We need to make a commitment as an individual. There are 17 SDGs. The objectives of these 17 goals are interrelated and it will solve the challenges faced by the planet at present.

Therefore, in general, the term sustainable development is looking out for various means and ways of doing things better both at the present and for the future. The change has to begin in the way we live now. Each one of us must do our part correctly. Small actions, big impact.
