Scientific name: Datura metel

Nepali name: Dhaturo

Common Name: Thron-Apple

Dhaturo is a tall, annual herb with blackish or greenish stem, poisonous, wild and cultivated plant. Datura species grow everywhere as weeds around habitations in West Himalayas, Nepal and India. It grows in all tropical, sub-tropical and temperate climate with average minimum temperature 100 -15 0C in winter and 25 -27oC in summer.

Uses of Dhaturo:

It is Antispasmodic, anodyne, narcotic, asthma, sedative, anticholinergic.

The dried leaves reduces asthma fits used in whooping cough and Bronchitis.

Seeds are used in asthma, hydrophobia and also in malaria and In higher doses cause hallucinations leading to delirium.

Dried leaves and flowers are used for epigastric and rheumatic pain.

Leaves are also used to reduce inflammation of breast cancer caused by excessive lactation.

It is useful in the treatment of Parkinson¡¯s disease, mucous secretion and urinary disorder.

The juice of the fruits is applied to the scalp for curing dandruff and falling hair.
