by Godfred Owusu | 03-08-2023 07:14

Asanteman Senior High School

On 28 July 2023, I organized environmental campaign at Asanteman Senior High School in Kumasi, Ashanti Region- Ghana. The aim of this campaign is to educate the young people on environmental conservation and also promote Tunza Eco Generation as well. As 30th Tunza Eco Generation ambassador to Ashanti Region Ghana, I was happy to get this opportunity and talk to the young people who are growing to become future leaders. I went to the school with my Association members who are also a member of Tunza Eco Generation. The Students presented for the program were over 1,000 and 6 of their teachers also presented. We held the program at their School Auditorium at 2pm GMT. These were the program outline

1. Purpose of gathering ( given by Martha Afi Awuku) She gave us the purpose of gathering

2. Open Discussion: This section was general questions and answers about the environment. Those who answered the question got Tunza Eco generation promotional goods. Discussion Forum

3. Firts Presentation: on the topic Environment and its Conservation ( Presented by Godfred Owusu 30th Tunza Eco Generation ambassador to Ashanti Region Ghana as well as Founder of Sustainable Green Future Club). I talked about what environment is, types of environment that is natural and built environment, relationship between man and the environment, services provided by the environment, human activities that affect these services, why do we need to conserve the environment and ways we can conserve the environment and take home message that is taking the environment as the room that we sleep and stop polluting it. Godfred Owusu presentationGodfred Owusu presentation

4. The second Presentation also held by ( Felix Owusu, Tunza Eco Generation member as well as Co founder of Sustainable Green Future Club): on the topic Waste Management. His presentation was very interesting and interactive as he engaged each and everyone in his presentation by asking what is waste, why are we concerned about waste? once is waste. He also explained various ways we can manage our own waste to sustain the environment. He talked about 5 ways we can use to manage waste that is Reduce, Refuse, Reuse, Recycle and Re purpose. An interesting message I took from his presentation was, someone waste is a resource to others so we should know how to turn our own waste to resource to save cost and sustain the environment. Felix Owusu presentationFelix Owusu presentation

6. Challenge and award: in this section, we asked the Students to bring out their innovative ways of managing waste in their own campus base on their knowledge and what have gained from the program so far. A group of three with four members each participated in this challenge. We told them to pick one R to manage waste, that's reduce, reuse, recycle, repurpose. The Students demonstrated nice presentation on their own ways of managing waste. Through their demonstration, I got to know that you can use plastic and sand to mold blocks used for building houses. We then awarded the winning team with academic materials like, mathematical sets, exercise books and pens, followed by the second group and the last group as well with different materials. Award. 7. Tree planting exercise: this exercise took place outside the auditorium. The reason for this exercise is to teach the students how to plant trees, why it is important in our communities and homes, and also to provide fresh air in future for Student's since the school is located in the City where industrial activities takes place. Tree planting exercise
