These days, so many challenges regarding environmental issues are hot topics around the world and is very marvelous one. In this report, I want to discuss what kind of challenges are currently doing in Myanmar and it consequences. Firstly, everyone will be friendly with the name called clean-up challenge. It had been created since 2015 which was not that much popular at that time. However, in 2019 around March, due to a post on online stating that a new challenge for "bored teens" and as an online challenge one have to take before and after photos of an area that gonna be cleaned up by a group or may be solo using hashtag #trashtag or #trashchallenge. Around the world, including Myanmar people have been doing it so well till today.
Secondly, there are lots of small roads at the rear of apartments in big cities and ditches full of litter in Myanmar which local had been suffered foul odor although they are the one who threw litter and there are also who do not. This can seriously harm their health. Volunteer teams and hundreds of people joined this challenge from a small village to a big city. Some painters made drawings on the wall at the rear of houses and apartments which become instagramable, facebookable places. I think this is a good challenge which can give people big awareness and the result also is good for the locals as they also can breathe fresh air and can see the beauty of street art.
We found out that most of the litter are plastic. Local use too much plastic in a day. I did a small research how much plastic bags one use in a day and it amazed me. Everyone morning, one person goes to local market and what they used for things they bought is plastic bags with different sizes. One may go to a coffee shop or store in the afternoon and what he used is plastic straws, plastic cups, when ask for takeaway, it is with plastic bag. Even when he buys a water bottle (plastic bottle), he requested to get a plastic bag to put it. This is only one person and there are nearly 53 million population in Myanmar. We are creating the plastic pollution which affects the biodiversity in many ways.
Thirdly, I went to a shopping mall last week and they asked as if I need a bag for the things that I bought and I said yes. That day is no plastic day so they gave me only reusable, recyclable, reduce able bag. What a good idea! It should be done everyday. After that, I went to a bread shop and they packed with biodegradable bag. Since last two months ago,I have been using my own steel spoon ,chopsticks, water bottle, bamboo straws and bamboo toothbrush. There are also plates, lunch box, takeaway box and many more eco friendly products made from betel tree in local with affordable price.
I believe, by using such kind of products and not throwing litter disorderly, we can be a part of helping the earth's good health.
