Trip to lilayi elephant nursery

by Bwalya Bwalya | 05-05-2019 18:10

We visited lilayi elephant nursery last week to see orphaned elephants and get to appreciate the beauty of conservation of species. We had a guide accompany us and explained the various circumstances in which the elephants were adopted. The nursery currently has Four elephant orphaned species about24months old. Two of them are more delicate than the other two as they do not have tasks to defend themselves from predators in when they are taken back into the wild (as nursery only keeps them untill age 3). The lack of tasks would also make their search for food difficult making them rely on other elephants to do the food search for them.. The aforementioned would result into animal conflict. We learnt that many especially in Africa poarch the elephants for medicinal purposes while others feel the tasks are a booster for sexual energy.. Both of the reasons being totally wrong. We need more sensitization programs on animal conservation si as to conserve animals for future generations.
