Earth Day 2019

by Sainath Manikandan | 29-04-2019 17:40

Earth Day is celebrated worldwide on 22nd April by the United Nations. We need to show our respect and gratitude to mother earth and treat mother earth with reverence, gratitude and care, and see God in nature. I had conducted and taken various efforts to appreciate, protect and serve mother earth by giving presentations and pep talks in my school and community.

I am requesting my friends, schoolmates and neighbors to take a pledge to stop using single-use plastics so that we can reduce our carbon footprints. Simple tips followed in our day to day life will greatly assist us in preserving our earth¡¯s resources.

We may try to follow the sustainability guidelines for plastic alternatives:

Identify the current plastic use:

1.    Plastic plates, cups, bowls

2.    Cutlery

3.    Take away containers

4.    Flowers and candles that are plastic wrapped

5.    Fruits, vegetables and other items that are plastic wrapped

6.    Storage containers

7.    Grocery bags

8.    Straws

9.    Water and other drink containers

10 Name tag holders

Identify which items to replace:

1.    Avoid all single-use plastics

2.    Collect all name tag holders for reusing them

3.    Ask shopkeepers not to wrap flowers, fruits, ¡¦ with plastics

4.    Carry a reusable water bottle

5.    Recycle

Make the effort:

1.    Follow 6Rs – Reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, rethink and refuse

2.    Raise awareness

3.    Encourage people to bring their own storage containers for takeaways

4.    Carry a green kit with a steel plate, cutlery, coffee cup

5.    Share your success story and be an example for others
