Air Pollution

UAE Air Quality Index (UAE AQI) app was launched by MOCCAE (Ministry of Climate Change and Environment) on the ministry¡¯s smart app. The app displays real-time readings of the satellite-monitored AQI across the UAE. They have used cutting edge technologies in live monitoring of air quality and it forecasts the AQI status for up to 3 days in advance. It also predicts the dust concentration and particulate matters. MOCCAE has collaborated with Khalifa University of Science and Technology.

One of the most important concern in our world today is air pollution as it has a serious impact on our health and environment. UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda has highlighted the quality of air as one of the key issue. As per the agenda, the aim is to raise the quality of air from its current level to 90% by 2021.

UAE has many enhanced projects and initiatives that aims to cut down the carbon emissions and reduce the carbon footprints. Public can access the real time AQI readings and calculated forecasts. This provision is given so that we can make decisions to help the country to achieve the target.

Currently there are 41 stations which aids in monitoring the air quality across the country along with satellite readings to get a highly accurate and reliable data.

It is made easier so that the public can interpret the reading as it is color coded. AQI is based on the concentration of Sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5). The daily AQI indicates the color, value (ranging from 0 to 500) and the dominating air pollutant that is affecting the ambient air quality.

The UAE AQI is accessible on the MOCCAE smart app and portal, or on the link earth.masdar.ac.ae/air_quality/forecast_aqi.php
