![]() In the previous report, I mentioned about air pollution in Myanmar especially in Mandalay region. However, the air pollution is not the only problem we are facing seriously in our region these days. Have we all thought about world's forests changing? Why forests are important? Forests are fundamental in keeping the climate change, to be exact, in determining the accumulation of green house gases in the atmosphere. No doubt that air pollution is related to the climate change. To begin with, climate change is caused by either natural causes or man-made cases. However, forests can solve climatic conditions by themselves. Drought, flooding, deforesting and the like are caused if there is no enough trees or forests in the specific regions. One clear example is Cyclone Nargis struck Myanmar on 2 May 2008 which was a great loss of the country in both human and natural resources. More than 140,000 people were killed by the storm and thousands of families were loss their home and provided with both local and international aids. Besides, burning of fossil fuels and significant CO2 emissions cause global warming and green house gases. The weather become much hotter and colder than in the past. This literally affect people health in many ways ranging from short term diseases such as eye irritation, headaches, sneezing and to long-term diseases namely cancer, heart diseases, and asthma. In Mandalay, Myanmar, the temperature becomes 45 degree Celsius for this summer the highest in 64 years. reference : https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/global-warming/pollution/ http://www.fao.org/3/a-i4793e.pdf https://www.activesustainability.com/climate-change/link-between-climate-change-air-pollution/ https://www.mmtimes.com/national-news/5333-more-heat-records-broken-in-may-dmh.html |
