![]() ![]() Vermicompost (or vermi-compost) is the product of the composting process using various species of worms, usually red wiglers, white worms, and other earthworms, to create a mixture of decomposing vegetable or food waste, bedding materials, and vermicast. We are making use of Eisenia fetida (older spelling: foetida), known under various names such as redworm, brandling worm, panfish worm, trout worm, tiger worm, red wiggler worm, red californian earth worm, etc., is a species of earthworm adapted to decaying organic material. These worms thrive in rotting vegetation, compost, and manure. They are epigean, rarely found in soil. last month we bought half kg of earthworms and now we have more than 2 kg of worms .They multiply so well during the summer and little slow during the winter. The wastes produced in canteen and hostel can be used so well to make it a valuable manure. The quality manure cam be sold in nice price. Thus waste can be easily be used to harvest money. you can also keep your vermicompost bin in your kitchen corner. You can use anything like bucket basket.hard cardboard ,styrofoam etc to keep your worms. It donot smell bad rather produces a quality manure for your kitchen garden. The manure thus produced can be used in rooftop gardens as well and harvest fresh organic vegetables.
