An Effort for the Environmentby Ida Ayu Mas Amelia Kusumaningtyas | 20-02-2019 20:52 |

My community and I have been trash collecting underwater whenever we go SCUBA diving these past few years. I believe that by collecting these trashes, we have helped the underwater life to not die from trash. Corals without trash covering them will be able to continue their growth, (taking into account that corals can only grow one centimeter a year). Fishes, sea turtles and the sort won¡¯t eat these trashes mistaking them for food if they are already gone before they can eat them, (there are cases where whales and sea turtle die from eating plastic bags). This year, we will still do trash collecting and another thing. My community had decided to educate the common people about life below water. Making a gathering that would discuss all about the underwater world. Starting from what SCUBA diving is, how coastal ecosystems are, the dangers of trash below water and so on. We hope that by doing this, the common people will be much more aware of the life below water and change their lifestyle for the better. Such as throwing trash where they belong, bringing their own water bottle and lunchbox, and other things. That is the plan right now. I remember back then, I would be alone to educate the common people. But now, I¡¯m glad my community has decided to start educating the common people about the environment as well. |
