![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I conducted my in-school environmental campaign on the 24th of January, 2018, with the Senior Secondary School students of Government Day Secondary School, Mabera, Sokoto. The school is full of indigent students in the area. I decided to carry out this campaign in this school because many of such students have been neglected and denied such information and opportunities. In fact, that is the main reason why such school was established - to give opportunity to indigent students to have a touch of literacy and education. The campaign was successful as the environmental awareness was properly carried out and I tried to use simple words and illustrations that the students can understand. About 50 students were in attendance. Though the school lack facilities, I was still able to use the available facilities to teach the students. The thematic areas of my discourse were: - Meaning of environment - Components of environment - How we pollute our environment - Approaches to protecting our environment - Local existing environmental laws and regulations. I tried to use simple illustrations like dropping wraps and packages on the flow to explain ways in which we pollute the environment. Some questions were raised and I was able to attend to them. Each of the students went with a TUNZA pencil, note and leaflets. The most active student was presented the TUNZA Bag. The program ended with a group photograph. Thanks to TUNZA and the associated organisations (Samsung Engineering and UNEP) for this opportunity. The protection of our environment is a collective responsibility. |
