Kathmandu is developing. Developing in aspect of wider roads and more vehicles. The more people live in the city it exponentially increases risk of pollution, air pollution being one of the most common manifestation. For 4-5 years numerous roads in Kathmandu are being widened, this is creating increased air pollution in the city. Recently the safety level of air was breached, thus it was suggested to wear safety masks. what makes the air of Kathmandu risky to inhale? Here is a case story presenting the same- In 2016, Environment performance index (EPI) of Nepal was 177th out of 180. The maximum status of fine particulate matter PM2.5 in urban area was 40 ug/m3 which is 10 times safety level. The major compositions being Carbon-monoxide, NO2, SO2, silica and other particles. The same is significantly increasing chance of non-communicable diseases like lung disease, heart disease and cancer. |
