After hydroelectricity there is high potential of wind energy generation in Nepal as Nepal is a mountainous country. Although Nepal has been collecting data on wind speed from 29 stations and the potential of wind power generation is estimated to be more than 3 thousand megawatts. This figure is four times of total electricity Nepal has produces till now and twice the demand of total electricity today. Generation of electricity from wind is simple, it has a fan which is connected to turbine generator and produces electricity. The method can be very effective for higher Himalayas which are not yet connected to national electricity transmission grid. This is also a cleaner form of energy along with hydroelectricity. Due to the topographic structure it needs a large number of wind station which can generate large amount of electricity. |
