![]() I'm impressed of sharing with you this great project that is ongoing to benefit East African Region. The project is intended to inspire and promote climate change research across the region. The project is also under the Advanced Global Atmospheric Gases Experiment (AGAGE) network stations, which only operates in 12 locations across the world. AGAGE network stations have been measuring long-lived green house gases since 1978, and the new established network station in Rwanda which is installed on the highest mountain in Rwanda (Mt Kalisimbi) shall capture and quantify emissions across East African Region to resolve and fulfill the challenge of lacking adequate date on ground research projects. In order to ensure the highest productivity of the station, the government trained technical experts to specialize in the field of atmospheric chemistry instrumentation. They have been trained to be very familiar with sensitive scientific instrumentation, to perform data analysis, and quality control. The station will be used for capacity building as well across the region. Since 2016, the University of Rwanda called its first application for Masters of Climate Science for East African Students. The initial class counted for more than 40 students. In that case, the station is regarded as an instrument that will be used for students' research and training. By closing, the AGAGE network station in Rwanda aim to collect climate change indicators including relevant date, increase scientific capacity across East African Region, and contribute to climate change mitigation as well as policies implementation. The project is being implemented by the government in collaboration with MIT. Source: Rwanda Ministry of Education (Mineduc) |
