Poverty is the key antagonist in conservation efforts in context of Nepalby Sachin Regmi | 23-01-2019 12:27 |

In this short communication article, I present my view on how poverty affects conservation efforts with respect to Nepal. Nepal is struggling hard to provide basic needs to its citizen. This makes it more challenging to contribute financially for conservation efforts. Although Nepal is managing some exceptional examples with limited resources it has, the demarcation clearly is visible. Poverty also leads to illegal activities like deforestation and poaching which hampers the system as a whole. Additionally, the conservation efforts can only be successful if there is mass involvement which is only possible if people think that these activities actually benefit them. The example of the same is seen in buffer zones of national parks here in Nepal. People only involve in activities which actually concerns them. They have no interest on increasing global warming but they worry about their decreasing water sources although these are related. |
