Reduce, Remove, Conserve (Self-started club) Future Plansby Aaditya Saha | 04-01-2019 07:44 |

As you may know, I started a club at my school called Reduce, Remove and Recycle, or RRC for short. The club is an organization that was made to help the environment with its problems with waste, specifically plastic pollution. I started my club on the platform of reducing the amount of plastic waste being used on a day to day basis going into the environment. Over the holiday break, I have had some time to think about the events that we will perform in order to prevent climate change or make your local community better off than last year concerning environmental problems. We are going to participate in more cleanup activities around the Atlanta area, where I live. I am planning on having 3 or 4 cleanups for our members to participate in, and hopefully, we can try to involve other schools as well. We are also planning on holding a Plastic-Free Week Challenge at our school. The challenge would be a fun and incentivized way for high school students to reduce the amount of plastic they use. If half of the students at Chamblee High School (my school) participate in this challenge week-long challenge, we would reduce over 2,000 pounds of plastic. If successful, we could also spread this challenge to other schools who are interested to help our environment simultaneously. Finally, we are almost up and running on our recycling program at Chamblee. Currently, the only thing possible to recycle at my school is paper, but we now have extra bins at our school to start non-paper recycling. Hopefully, we can get the recycling program started by the start of next semester. All in all, I am trying to do my best to help my local community be cleaner and greener. |
