Open defecation in Nairobi

by Bonface Obuba | 21-12-2018 18:30

I have been studying in Nairobi for 7 years. it is usual for me to encounter HUMAN POOP under footbridges and on the sides of walkways downtown as I walk to school. It is embarrassing but it is true.

At one incident my friends caught sight of a man openly defecating on the side of a street at night.

Wastewater leaking from a manhole or a sewer pipe and flowing openly on a busy road is a common sight. people get splashed with this offensive raw sewage by traffic. This has happened to me a few times.

Open defecation is despicable and it is an important subject to broach.

Because 6% of Nairobians still practice open defecation, Nairobi has not attained open defecation free (ODF) status, yet.

Something needs to be done.
