![]() Voice of The People Greetings, How are you all doing dear nature lovers, mother Earth protector, readers and fellow ambassadors? I have been busy with my classes but know I am back healthy in our lovely platform. In fact I need to share with a great theatre book story i read named voice of the people, writen by Okiya OMTATA Okoiti. ![]() In this book, the main characters are: 1.Boss: The strongman, Head of State. 2.Sibuor: Right-hand man to the Boss. 3.Nasirumbi: A schoolteacher and social activist. 4.Indondo: Editor of a local daily newspaper, the voice of the people. In the book, Okiya tell us a story of a simbi forest. This forest was a tourist forest, containing some water source that served the near by population. The government needed to bring a project that was supposed to clear out the whole Simbi and replace it by an industry. And that is where the conflict started between Boss and sibuor who were on the government side and Nasirumbi and Indondo, who proved that simbi forest is very needed by the people around it much than any other else. I am not going to tell you all the story but I need to trigler you to read it for more. All i want you to tell me as your part, is a discussion on which side you would choose, the government or that of the society's. The society needed to hold their simbi forest due to its ecological benefits but the government needed to improve, the electricity in the village, and to have electricity industry they needed to cut simbi forest down to get place. (its your time tell me). In the end, Nasirumbi incurs the wrath and hostility of the powers-that-be for engaging in a crusade to save Simbi forest. Led by Boss, the political leadership would stop at nothing to achieve its heinous goals. But it has to contend with the integrity and moral forthrightness of nasirumbi, whose unshakeable resolve ends up being a nightmare to Boss and his sycophants. The voice of people was declared the best original play in 1991 nairobi theatre academy awards. If you get a chance read it in full. |
