by Hnin Phyu Sin | 18-11-2018 23:14

This book is prepared together by UNDP, SIWI, WIN, Cap-Net and Water Net. This is the book for giving the training to the people who are specializing on water issues and interested people. And this book also highlighted how much water governance is important in Sustainable Development and clearly explained IWRM.
There are five modules and this book try to introduce the integrated water management system to strengthen water governance system. What I realized after reading this book is described below:
Water integrity is the integrity of people and institutions involving water resources. It also means that as a means of personal ethics and responsibility. The challenges of water integrity are how to handle power of all parties (From top to bottom). It is closely linked to water governance as water crises are not due to resource scarcity but because of government failure. Water integrity is on the hand of all stakeholders. All are the decision supporters and decision makers will have to deal with them for getting the best water policy.
Nowadays, freshwater resources are being threatened because of many reasons, importantly, climate change. Due to this factor, we have to maintain our live resources not to be exhausted by human¡¯s careless behavior. Our human actions are directly or indirectly affected the water resources and do not aware the impacts of their actions. In order to aware of the current water resources condition and universal needs, we actually need to promote water integrity in an urgent way. We do need to have good governance to change people¡¯s behavior. Also, it will tackle down the conflict situation comes from natural resources partly and will protect indigenous rights and possession.
Strengthening capacities of government, improving WASH policies and demand services, partnership with water related international organization, holistic budget planning, monitoring and follow up action planning, using the suitable toolkit for preserving the precious water resources should be included in a plan or strategy to promote water integrity. Advocating should be well developed in engaging with communities and well transform policies should be submitted.
Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.¡± (UN, 1987).  Water is at the core of sustainable development and is critical for socio-economic development, healthy ecosystems and for human survival itself. It is vital for reducing the global burden of disease and improving the health, welfare and productivity of populations. The water goal and targets directly address the development aims of societies, promote human dignity and ensure achievements. Using integrated water management system will ensure the three pillars of SDG goals and country¡¯s status will become higher and higher.
