The Most Impressive Movie related with Environmental Issues

by Adrianna Wojtyna | 18-11-2018 07:32

Hello,

In this report, I would like to describe one movie, which delivers an environmental message.

It might not seem as a usual answer, but I think film ¡°Avatar¡± is a good example of a film, which perfectly combines entrainment and educational purposes.

Firstly, I would like to briefly introduce the plot of the movie. The film presents a futuristic vision, in which human civilization was able to reach other celestial bodies thanks to the technological development. People decided to exhaust special natural resources of Pandora, which are not available on earth. By doing that, people do not consider the wellness of indigenous community that inhabits the moon and their natural environment. This immense influence of human on the Na¡¯vi tribes ignites the conflict between the indigenous people and newcomers.

By this story, I could see who immense our impact on Earth is. We exhaust its natural resources, we consume tons of plastic, we destroy natural environment of thousands of species on the everyday basis. We forget that all those animals that live in the forests were there thousands or even millions of years before us, which resembles the situation in the film. I think looking from the perspective of the spectator on the situation presented in the movie makes us realize how detrimental are some of our decisions on the state of the environment. It shows how many creatures need to suffer to get natural resources or place to grow crops for ourselves.

Not only does the director puts emphasis on our overuse of resources provided by the nature, but also wants to remind us how beautiful actually flora and fauna is. The world of Pandora exemplifies a pure idyll, with clean water, many plants and animals living in the symbiosis. Nature is like an artist – the colours and sounds that surround the people living in Pandora provides extraordinary visual and acoustic experiences. While it may seem that it is only the image in the creator¡¯s head, I think this aspect was introduced to make us realise that, in fact, we have our own idyll closer than we think. Look on the blue sky, on the green trees in the forest – aren¡¯t they beautiful? However, it all depends on us whether they are going to be preserved. At the moment, we do everything to destroy it. I think the scenes presented in the move show us how huge our treasure, nature, is and how crucial it is for us to conserve it.

The other pro-environmental aspect which I would like to underline is the harmony in which the indigenous tribes live on Pandora. This tight connection between them and nature is even embodied by the structure of their bodies which allows them to connect with the elements of fauna and flora. This balance allows them to thrive, live in health and peace. I think this aspect should make viewers realize how important our co-existence with nature is. It provides us with food and place to live. And when we treat it with respect, we can take advantage of the array of gifts provided by it. The author of the film also underlined the importance of nature in the culture of the tribe. Their most importanct places of reverence where trees. In my opinion, it shows the position of nature in the hierarchy of values of the tribe. This aspect put emphasis on the fact that it is crucial to realize the immense role of nature.

At the end of the day, despite the lack of technological solutions, the Na¡¯vi tribe wins the final battle in the film, which presents a final conclusion that actually the interconnection with nature is the best what we can have. This strong mutual influence between fauna and flora and people was the decisive factor of the victory. What I concluded is that the positive co-existence of human beings with nature on Earth will allow us to win¡¦the better living.
