Name of the clip: CLIMATE 101: AIR POLLUTION Why this clip is important? This video nicely demonstrates: What is air pollution? and How greenhouse gasses, smog, and toxic pollutants effect climate change, and human health? Link/Video URL: https://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/101-videos/climate-101-air-pollution?gc=%2Fvideo%2Fenvironment Name of the clip: "The Most Terrifying Video You'll Ever See" Why is this clip important? This video gives a convincing argument and justification as to why it is absolutely must now to act towards green living to fight climate change. Speaker makes a matrix on the whiteboard and explains what could be the consequence of us acting now or not acting now. He points about the advantages of switching to a green economy (Energy independence, preserve rainforests, livable cities, green jobs, healthy children ¡¦.). Actually, column B (the "no action column") is even worse than that. Because even if climate change wasn't real (I am convinced it IS real from the evidence) all the things we are doing to prevent climate change need to be done anyway. We need to give up coal and oil because they are running out and we don't want to get to the point of true scarcity before making the switch. Pollution from fossil fuels is bad for human health (respiratory illnesses, cancers), environmental health (acid rain, oil spills) and is also aesthetically unpleasing (smog). Coal mining and oil drilling are both damaging to ecosystems. Solar is steadily becoming a cheaper source of energy and in some places it is even cheaper than coal. Deforestation (which means a smaller carbon sink on land) is harmful to ecosystems. Switching to renewables will encourage energy conservation. So basically everything that has been suggested to prevent climate change needs to be done for other reasons anyways. This video is great at conveying that the risk of not acting far outweighs the risk of acting as ¡®not acting¡¯ could lead to huge economic troubles and a lot of disruption by catastrophes (draughts, floods, hurricanes).
