![]() ![]() This is in continuation of my report since last month about my 'Remove Reduce, Conserve (RRC) club - I¡¯ve made a lot of progress in this last month. I have attached some pictures from the Sept 22 clean up we had done at the Chattahoochee Recreation Center - we were able to stop 5 bags of trash (majority of it was plastic waste but also styrofoam, glass, metal etc) from polluting the river. Additionally, we have joined the 2018 EcoChallenge, hosted by the Northwest Earth Institute. We have got many members of our community to join us in our efforts, and it is definitely showing in our team rankings. We participated in our school's home coming parade to promote the club at our school (see picture below). Lastly, we have also officially received confirmation from our county that we can start recycling plastic at school and 25 plastic recycling bins have been delivered to our school. On an average, humans use 170 plastic bottles, according to Ban the Bottle. We have over 1700 students in our school, and 250 teachers, administrators, and parents at the school. Since we have approximately 130 days left in the school year, we could save approximately 6000 pounds of plastic. This would save 9000 liters of water, and immeasurable amounts of fossil fuels and emissions. One of our club¡¯s long-term goals is to start plastic recycling at every school in our Dekalb, County which has over 100,000 students. Together we can make an impact in a positive way. https://www.banthebottle.net/bottled-water-facts/ pacinst.org/publication/bottled-water-and-energy-a-fact-sheet/ Wikipedia.com |
