Rhinoceros Horn Trimming

by Deepak Subedi | 13-10-2018 21:11

At first i would like to apologize for not posting reports regularly. Because of my exam I could barely post 5-6 reports after being ambassador. Now exams are over, I will try to post informative and knowledgeable reports. I hope all ambassadors; mentors and other people will read my article and gain something.

Rhinoceros Horn Trimming

Horn trimming in rhinoceros, it sounds unnatural but it is very important step to protect rhinos against poachers. 5-8 Rhinos are poached for their horns everyday in Africa for the illegal rhino market in Asia. Hornless rhinos are not desirable by poachers.

We may have a question, can rhino survive without horn? Most definitely remember they?re still massive, incredibly strong, and fully armored. Many parks and reserves find their rhino survival and reproduction to be higher as a result of trimming. One of the primary reasons a rhino has a horn is to fight other rhino over territory and females. These fights are often to death.

Horn is a keratinous structure so it can grow back like other keratinous structures in nature like nails and hairs. Rhino horns are trimmed every 2 years. Cutting horn is not painful; it is same like cutting nails and hairs.
