On 14th Sept 2018, Rwanda celebrated world ozone day because the world ozone day that should have taken place on 16th Sept 2018 contradicted with Sunday. Local government officials including Coletha Ruhamya, General Director of Rwanda Environment Management Authority and the Vice Mayor of Kigali City were also present in the event.
The event took place at Kigali Car Free Zone and was compacted with the celebration of two years of Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol that was adopted in Oct 2016.The Montreal Protocol controls Hydrochlorofluoro carbons (HCFCs) which are ozone-depleting substances.
The exhibition of alternatives to ozone layer depleting substances and technologies that promote energy efficiency was also a wonderful part of the event. The exhibited materials include cooling natural gases, Cooking gas, solar energy and electronic refrigerant among many others.
The event was also characterized by entertainment part, with traditional Rwandans dance and songs by traditional troops. The event was intended to create awareness of the implementation of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, a commitment to stop the global warming.
The thing that we should really think about is how we can use technological innovations to mitigate gases emissions while contributing to energy efficiency. The other thing is financial needs to carry out those projects because it requires a huge capital.
