Hi, Tunza Eco-generation family and everyone who's reading this, I hope you all have a nice day! First off, I want to express my gratitude to Tunza Eco-generation for choosing me as one of The 20th Tunza Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors to my wonderful country, Indonesia. This 6 months of journey is so impressive and superb! I will cherish this once in a lifetime experience forever on my mind. I also can't thank enough to our mentors for always giving us so many positive feedbacks and inputs in all of our reports. That's really matter to me in particular. Not to forget, to all my fellow ambassadors, it's such a fabulous journey to know all of you and get so many insights and new knowledges from all of ambassadors' reports from various countries. So delighted to have worked with all of you guys! Actually, I can't believe that we're finally at the end of The 20th Tunza Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors' term. It feels like 6 months passed so quickly. And yes, this month is August and that's mean this report is going to be my last report as ambassador for this term. No wonder that the last topic for this term is about 'What can I do with my major / my dreams for the environment?'. For me, this topic is really interesting to introduce about our own interests and concerns to environment. Talking about major, I was graduated as a bachelor of accounting. I have a genuine interest in accounting and taxation. This took a further step when I chose this major in college as my future career. I do hope I can be a professional accountant in the future. Indeed, that's my big dream. It might be a surprise to some of you, because I may be the only one who's coming from different background compared to most of Tunza's members who's majoring related to environmental studies or kind of. We may come from various majors, but the most important thing is that we live on the same one place : The Mother Earth. Everyone has an obligation to preserve and protect the environment. That's why this platform is exist as a form to share ideas and encourage others to pay attention and care about the environment and also that's why I'm here to take my part as a new eco warrior. The very first time I became more aware about environmental issues was when I became a volunteer in one of the biggest event held by one of environmental organizations in Indonesia in 2015. From that event, I learnt a lot about environmental problems, especially about marine and plastic pollution. All of us were imposed to not bring plastic bottles during the event and to reduce the using of plastic bottles. I didn't believe that being a part of that event has opened my mind toward the current situation of our environment : Earth has been facing a lot of problems which mostly caused by ourselves as human. Since then, I became more careful to do something so it won't harm the environment. I still haven't done many real things like campaigns or something related to environmental conservation due to the fact that I'm not an expert on this field. Compared to all of Tunza's members, I may be the one who has a little knowledge about environment and various complex problems of it. Here I'm still learning and I could say that being a part of this platform is helping me so much. So, what can I do for the environment? There isn't much I can do unless by starting myself to always do good behaviors in my daily life. Here's the lists of what I have been trying to implement so far : 1. Reduce using private vehicles, otherwise I prefer using public transportation (I have been living in Jakarta for almost 5 years and as the matter of fact that Jakarta is the most crowded city in Indonesia and the air pollution is getting worse day by day, thus I choose to use commuter for going everywhere). 2. Try to not use anything made from plastic. For example, if you want to do groceries, try to always bring shopping bags and if you want to go somewhere, don't forget to bring your own tumbler instead of always buying a bottle of water. Also, try to refuse using plastic straw, meanwhile try using reusable straw instead. 3. Don't ever throw any garbages away in the wrong place, specifically in the river or street. If there's no dustbin near you, please just keep holding it until you find ones! 4. Reduce energy use. Less energy use means less dependence on the fossil fuels that create greenhouse gases and contribute to global warming. For instance, by turning off lights when you leave a room and using only as much light as you need. Also, remember to turn off your television and computer when you're not using them. In addition, use less heat and air conditioning are also good to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 5. Speak up! We can share any informations about environmental issues and how to tackle those problems to our friends, family, and everybody. By voicing our concerns via mouth-to-mouth or social media (since it's the effective medium to spread news), we can encourage public to establish programs or policies which are very good for the environment. Encourage other people to conserve is the most powerful way to save the planet. 6. Let's be more literate about what's happening right now in our environment! Seek as much information as possible by reading more news and articles related to the current state of Earth. By knowing about the current situation of environment, we can know what's the next steps we should take, so we won't worsen the damage of the environment.
Well, there are lots of things we can do ourselves. They might look like small things, but they are powerful things. I always believe in these words : A change only happens when individuals take action. Our planet will be better if we have a courage to take action. Let's doing what's good for the environment and trying to leave all of our bad habits behind! Earth is our only home, so we must find a way to live on it sustainably. Cheers!💚💚 |
