Pollution levels including Air Pollution are well under control in the UAE. It does not deter this country to sit & relax. The Government & related authorities are always at their toes to control all pollutants in the country. One of the major Air Pollutants are Factories operating in this country particularly cement manufacturers. All are strictly monitored so that the air pollution is under check. Dear Ambassadors, you will be pleasantly surprised to note that Environmental offences by factories in Dubai have fallen by 47 per cent in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year. In view of rising pollution levels in the world it is very heartening to note that UAE is able to reduce the pollution levels. This decline has resulted as the municipality introduced measures to monitor industries more closely. They have used Drones also to monitor the same. There has been a steady growth in this sector & the chance of increasing pollution is very high. Further, few months ago a new draft federal law on integrated waste management was introduced. It is stipulated that companies could be fined upto Dh1 million for incorrectly disposing of waste by landfill or burning. More than three-quarters of the UAE?s waste is unrecyclable and could be used to regenerate energy. The new law gives the Ministry the power to ban products deemed unrecyclable or harmful to the environment – after co-ordinating with a specialised authority. Please note that Dubai Municipality already recycles 5,000 tonnes of waste a day to regenerate energy. The UAE produces 6.5 million tonnes of non-hazardous waste per year, with individuals producing an average of 1.2 to 1.3kg of waste daily. The law will also take to task people who burn, dispose of or bury waste in public areas or water channels by fining them up to Dh30,000. In view of the above, it is evident that UAE has been successful in implementing the measures on time using the latest technology so that rising industrial activity does not result in increasing pollution levels. The strong will power is clearly evident. It is assured that 30% of the Air in the UAE will be pure by the year 2021. Thanks for reading.
