Plastic Roads

by Kushal Naharki | 26-07-2018 15:33

This pitch road of Pokhara is made from Waste Plastic by Green Road Waste Management. Almost 1 ton of the plastic has been used to make 1 km road.

Plastics melt at around 120-170 degree Celsius, where no gases are evolved. But once the temperature reaches 270-300 degree Celsius then gases like ethane, methane. etc starts to evolve. And when it reaches 700 degree Celsius (where it BURNS) then the toxic gases like Carbon monoxide and Carbon Dioxide starts to evolve and in this process we are only MELTING the plastics (170 degrees max) and not BURNING them.

Why plastic road?
1. Plastic works as a good binding agent and makes the normal road durable
2. Plastic wastes are managed without emission of toxic gas
3. Bitumen is saved.

If we can't refuse it, Let's reuse it. Lets "Beat Plastic Pollution"
