Tunza Outreach documentation

Brigada Eskwela is an annual national event sponsored by the national governmental Department of Education in aims for emphasizing preparation for school. Together with other members from our school organization and UNESCO accredited organization focusing on the environment, we assisted this year with moving school desks and chairs to where they were needed, with maintenance of the infrastructure, as well as offering our own voice on such need. With the latter aspect, we were also able to advocate for Tunza's initiatives (see images below).

The public school system was found to be quite minimal in terms of extra-curricular focuses, rather having only the core subjects (math, english, and basic sciences) taught to the students. Our aim was to introduce sustainability, not only as an education factor, but a lifestyle as well. Touching upon the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals was one way to do it for instance with special in-depth discussions on SDGs 11-15 (sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land). This is in extension to the initial discussion on what Tunza and our UNESCO organization have conducted.

We hope to connect these to the every day curriculum as an end result. One possible target is attainable especially through the science curriculum. Environmental engineering is a very holistic field of study and has open many room to the analysis of carbon footprint, biodiversity, resource management, among many others. Activities such as sustainable city planning, experimenting with filtration systems, and policy mapping could be elementary concepts to touch upon as well. Programs such as Tunza Eco-Generation is a great way to introduce many of today's youth into this and as ambassadors, helping the outreach of such can carry huge potential.
