The Birth of a new International Environmental Law for Brazil and the World.

by Rosa Domingos | 20-07-2018 00:03

With so many national environmental laws put into place for the safeguard of natural resources, countries have seen that it is not enough to just depend on national laws and legislation but to form coherent yet sound international laws, because truthfully, we all share this world and it is our responsibility to make sure that executive laws are set in place to protect even the most smalls of localities oppressed by injustice.

With that being said, I would like to further elaborate on an issue that has been exponentially on the rise termed ?international environmental law?. Now, these are laws set in place as a standard for organisations, unions and even governments to establish and, moreover, manage natural resources and environment quality.

The broad categories of ?natural resources? and ?environmental quality? include areas such as air and water (inland surface water, groundwater and marine water) pollution, forests and wildlife, hazardous waste, agricultural practices, wetlands, and land use planning. What?s great about these laws are that the standards set forth in environmental laws can apply to either private parties or the government.

One example of laws that was executed to safeguard the environment, in particular forests, is Brazil?s Forest Law which aims to combating deforestation in the Amazon, while developing the region?s economic potential.

The new law is also expected to help end illegal land occupation in the Brazilian Amazon through new measures that will provide for the demarcation of public forests.

What?s fascinating about this law is that it started off as a basis for Brazil?s forest regulation as the Amazon Forest was suffering immensely from deforestation and illegal-gold-mining. But now is has gained basis recognition for which other countries may use to counteract similar issues.

Social and environmental organizations, including WWF, have been struggling
for years to press for a way to halt the process of illegal occupation and deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon by ranchers and agribusiness, protect the rights of local residents, and conserve irreplaceable biodiversity found within the Brazilian Amazon.
As this law is relatively
?young?, I believe a strict regulation of the forest with the law will ensure a protected Amazon.
