Tunza Ecogeneration partners with EnviroMUN Thiruvananthapuram 2018

You all must have heard of Model United Nations? Its a competitive and a very productive event where people come together, act as delegates representing different countries, take part in discussions, bring new policies, etc just like it happens in the United Nations! Wow!

During the first week of June 2018, the Regional Centre of Enterprise, Thiruvananthapuram (accredited by United Nations University), organised a 2 day- EnviroMUN Conference, the first of its kind in the capital city of Kerala.

I was contacted by the organisers a few months before the event knowing I was an ambassador for Tunza Ecogeneration asking for a partnership. Seeing it as an amazing opportunity to spread word about Tunza Ecogeneration , I emailed Ecogeneration and asked if they were ready and they too thought of it as an amazing opportunity.
We planned to give Ecogeneration goodies with Delegate Kits that were given to every delegate. Also, they mentioned about Ecogeneration in different posts, posters and also in speeches at the event.
All delegates loved the goodies, especially the notepad.

A total of 110 delegates from across India representing various countries participated in the event that started on June 2.

Inaugurating the EnviroMUN 2018, former ambassador TP Sreenivasan said that the United Nations which was established primarily to prevent wars failed in that area as more than 800 wars happened since its inception. But the existence of UN has become more relevant now because the UN has extended its agenda to areas like environment, human rights, HIV, AIDS, immunisation and so forth, all of which were not in its original charter, he added.

"It is unfortunate that with the Paris Agreement, where everything was made voluntary, it is no longer mandatory for any country to take measures against climate change. The developing countries should be allowed to grow using natural resources. Eco-friendly technologies should be made available to them to protect the environment," he said. The solar alliance initiated by India is one of the right means to overcome energy crisis, he added. He pointed out that the developed counties should change lifestyles to tackle the environment issue.

Both the committees showcased excellent talent from all the delegates and it certainly helped them understand how to diplomatically represent nations on an international platform.

Meanwhile the International Press paid consistent visits to both the committees jotting down reports and capturing tense moments during the sessions.

Through this MUN, students were able to build their leadership skills and also learn how they can bring changes as responsible leaders of tomorrow. They had actual bureaucrats, etc attending the sessions, etc and they could bring in changes in actual practice for the present.
