![]() Women should be recognized as climate change mitigation actors. The fact that, the majority of worldwide women are engaged in both informal and agriculture sector; should not be ignored. If we are really trying to address environmental issues uprooted, women have to become an important and centered part of the process. These women in the informal and agriculture sector, they are mostly found in slum areas for those who live in urban areas where they don't have toilets, they don't have access to water; and others in rural areas where they are mostly food insecure, and they don't have access to health services, and so on. What they share in common is that most of them are home-based workers. They need skills but as well as self-confidence. An important area which is very useful but we didn't realize that it's something that can be integrated in the process of addressing this issue is technological literacy. It is the main source of all environmental related information and global data system as we all know but which most of them don't know anything about. Access to digital world is a kind of empowerment to contribute on climate change mitigation, and ensuring their fully participation in the process. The other issue is their productivity. Actually, they can't increase their productivity as well. There is a need to change that mindset that homes are just dwelling places, they are also workplaces especially for women and so when empower them in the essence of environmental concern, we are 90% on the right track to solve climate change challenges as well as bettering their living conditions and boosting their productivity. Thinking of this, the only thing that should really be changed is for women's role in this movement to be considered as a crucial part of the process. I think that's the most important thing if we want to go towards climate change mitigation. |
