Not so long ago, on the 3rd of March to be exact, I wrote article about the water level restrictions on Cape Town and the count down to DAY ZERO. I want to add a follow-up to that and what the government and municipal agencies has been doing in order to combat the water crisis and keep Day Zero at bay for good!

1. ?Shop til you drop? stickers

My family and I went to a food store this one time and I noticed something at the price tag areas. the store has stickers of how the particular branded item will bring forth a donation , of water, to the Western Cape province. I bought as much items as I possible could because that very contribution counts, whether big or small.

2. Groundwater posters and Groundwater monitoring, Department of Water and Sanitation.

Groundwater is the most under investigated and underused water resource in South Africa, that is why my department is dedicated to monitoring programs that are set on a monthly to quarterly basis. This way, we are able to keep track of the groundwater levels in the region ans assign water to communities that really need it.

 Groundwater posters have been placed in the Department as well to showcase the importance of groundwater resource and how it can help alleviate the water crisis. 

3. Water restrictions put up in toilet rooms

The first thing that hit me when I came to Cape Town was the manner at which every toilet, and I mean every toilet, had posters on not to waste water and to keep awarse  of water restrictions. One initiative they set in place that I find really ingenious was that they replaced tap water with hand sanitizes. Which is a smart way to save water in such a water scarce situation.

To end off, one saying that I will not forget was one person said "One day you will open the tap and no water will be coming out because of all the drops that have been waster." So I urge my fellow members to think twice every time you think about using water and always be sensitive to water wastage.
