![]() Though there are a lot species of different animals and plant which are enlisted in the endangered list but I will be talking about the great hornbill (Buceros bicornis) also known as Thulo Dhanesh in Nepali. The bird is with the large bill and a U shaped casque on the top of it commonly yellow in color its the main identity of giant hornbill and the female is smaller than male and present in the Asiatic regions mostly. It is one of the endangered bird of Nepal enlisted in the IUCN red list. it is the large sized bird and its bill is the main focus point. It makes it nest in the hole of old tress using its large and strong bill. The size of hornbill is about 100-120 cm and average weight of 6.6lb. It depends mostly on the fruit for feeding but sometime it also feed on small insects and reptiles also. This birds look so beautiful due to its colorful body and its bill. The large bill is mostly for making holes in the wood during its breeding season and the incubation period is about 35-40 days. Great hornbill lives for 35 plus year and sometimes they are so exhaust during nesting that they die immediately. There is a great importance of hornbill because they feed on small insect whic are pests for our ecosystem. But unfortunately due to the differrent reasonsthe population of great hornbill is being reducing from the world . so this is the time for us to come together for saving the species which are being extinct from our earth. |
