![]() ![]() UAE is very responsible towards all aspects of environmental conservation. They take care of the same & try to draw only as much as is needed & leave the rest for future generations. This was the vision of the founding father of the UAE, The Late Sheikh Zayed. He is considered to be the greatest environmentalist of all times. In order to pay homage to him, Four critically endangered Green Turtles were tagged & released in the Indian Ocean sanctuary, off Bu Tinah island near Abu Dhabi. The four Green Turtles were carefully selected to represent Late Sheikh Zayed values of Wisdom, Respect, Sustainability & Human development. I quote one of the very popular quote on UAE environment by Late Sheikh Zayed, ?On land and in the sea, our fore-fathers lived and survived in this environment. They were able to do so because they recognised the need to conserve it, to take from it only what they needed to live, and to preserve it for succeeding generations? Dear Readers you will be amazed to note that in Abu Dhabi, near Sadiyat Islands, all big five star hotels will switch off their unnecessary illumination so that the survival rate of baby turtles may get a boost. Turtles swim ashore and lay their eggs, burying dozens in the sand, before returning to the seas. After about two months, the tiny turtles shed their shells, break for the surface and head for the sea. They look to moon to find the sea. The dazzling lights distracts them & they are misguided away from the sea. These are small yet concrete examples of the commitment of Government & the maturity of public to respond to the call of nature. If we look into the middle east region, Oman?s turtles also are near extinction. I short video is attached to look the issues faced in Oman. https://www.thenational.ae/world/mena/oman-s-turtles-face-a-battle-for-survival-1.723986 Thanks for reading. |
