WATER POLLUTION CONTROL IN TAIWAN.

by Elizaveta Zaretskaya | 26-03-2018 21:34

Hi everyone from Taiwan! I would like to draw your attention to my second  report on topic related to WATER POLLUTION CONTROL IN TAIWAN.

Last week I came to the Russian department of Tamkang University. I had an oral presentation on topic related to Water pollution control. Enviromental protection activities presented to 2rd year students at Tamkang University. The presentation took place on March 20th, 2018.

After my presentation we discussed possible environmental protection activities in Taiwan. At first, we talked about water pollution control. What can people do? 1) set up an inventory of all businesses registered under the County jurisdiction and implement controls of waste water discharge; 2) implement discharge permits for water pollution sources with dedicated review personnel; 3) strengthen waste water (sewage) discharge audits and controls to ensure that operators comply with discharge standards.

Then we discussed about the ocean pollution control. What can people do? 1) regularly conduct ocean oil spill disaster response drills to ensure that all relevant units are well trained and equipped for pollution containment; 2) assist the Coast Guard Administration to prevent and prosecute ocean pollution; 3) conduct sea water quality monitoring to track water quality and provide a reference for control measures.

Then we discussed about drinking water management. What can people do? 1) conduct regular monitoring of the tap water supply system to ensure that the tap water meets water quality standards; 2) audit potential polluting sources in drinking water source protection areas to prevent the contamination of drinking water sources.

There are many rivers in Taiwan, so our last topic for discussion was river water quality improvement. What we can do to protect river water? 1) regularly convene the River Pollution Remediation Task Force to enhance the communication between all participating units in order to work together to improve river water quality; 2) investigate sources and severity of riverside pollutions to develop remediation plans; lobby for funding to install water quality improvement facilities and cut pollution sources in order to improve the overall water quality. It was very interesting discussion.

Thank you for your attention!
