 Hello my fellow ambassadors. I'm glad to share with you my first report as 20th regional ambassador to Rwanda. In this report I'm going to discuss about how environmental activities should be financed, and why it is very important to finance environmental projects. We will also see priority sectors under environmental contest which should be our opportunity cost on our scale of preference. Let us start with the whys. why is it important to financially support environmental projects? The first reason that headed others is "human health". Distinguish health with life, even if both can be the reasons for environmental financing but health come first. when we talk about health we meant biological and physical function of our body while life includes all things that play an important role in our welfare and well being. So, knowing that environment worthy human health and life should be the main driving force to finance environmental initiatives. Of course there are much more but all of them are attached on the above twos. Then how environmental activities should be financed? When we talk about financing we mainly focus on how sustainable is the project, how impact-fully is the project, and which outcomes it will bring. So it is very essential to make sure that the project you want to finance is viable through SMART analysis. This doesn't concern only the donors and supporters of the project, but as well to the owner of the project. The owner of the project should make sure that, his/her project is aligned with global environmental agenda and his/her local government preferable sector of investment. Here we jump to prioritization. It is very crucial to prioritize projects accordingly. Prioritizing projects play an important role in investment by making sure that fund goes to the right project which really deserve it. Environment is a wide concept which involves distinguished economic activities such as agriculture, fishing and many more. So it is important to know to which sector is more appropriate depending upon people's need in a certain region. Thus we know how financing is meaningful in environmental projects, we can now make good projects that are worthy to invest within. Projects that fulfill all the above, projects that are more people oriented than money oriented because environment holds all people's health and life, so if you are more money oriented, people will end up not affording your service or commodity; and if that service or commodity play an important role in their daily life, those who can't afford it, will be dying of chronological diseases. Environmental initiatives is the hardest thing i ever seen because it requires passion, compassion, and commitment.Not everyone can do that. |
