[February Free Report] A poem for women in the climate movement

by Elina Haber | 29-02-2024 06:36

I've been fortunate enough to have experienced the world as it is
Or at least as it should be.

I've always been treated equally.

When I was a little girl, I never thought of that all the world leaders are men.
Men who have the power to make a difference,
Men who have the power to make laws,
Men who have the power to dominate the world,
To dominate women.

They say: "We should not discriminate against women."

And yet, they make women believe that they are second class citizens,

Looking back at my childhood,

Where I grew up, feeling guilty for "not having a sustainable lifestyle", and "not caring about the environment'.

I used to think "The climate is changing because of me."

That my carbon footprint is the reason climate change is happening.

But I did not know

That was not the reason for climate change
That was a mere projection of what polluters wanted me to believe

But as I grew up, I started to realize that this was all related to the political and social situation of my country.

No, we can't solve climate change with 50% of the population.
No, we aren't trying to reinvent the wheel.
We are looking forward to diversity for a better population.

Therefore, I will fight with all I can for gender equality.
I will speak and try to create an equal society.

Through my educational actions,
That educates the people about the reality of climate change,
And about the relationship between gender equality and climate change,
I hope to empower the girls of my country,
To stand up and participate in the mitigation of this environmental phenomenon.

Knowledge is empowerment,
Empowered people make better decisions,
Empowered people fight for equality,
Gender Equality is my mission.
