More deaths linked to allege poisoning of drinking wells are emerging in Liberia by the day, just after news of 16 persons allegedly poisoned to death in Margibi County.

On Tuesday, August 5, a caller from Grand Bassa County Richard Kporyor phoned- in to the NewDawn newspaper and reported the alleged poisoning of wells in that part of the country, while at the same time reporting the death of four persons suspected to be Ebola victims in towns near his village.

The poisoning of wells news are coming in at a time rumors are circulating of individuals allegedly poisoning drinking wells with what is largely claimed to be ?formaldehyde.?

At least few suspects are being held under police custody, but much has not been released to the public concerning claims of poison that is being raised in various communities. On Tuesday, this paper was hinted of five suspects being held at the Zone Five Police Station for alleged well poisoning.

In a related development, a former community leader of Barnersville Township Elder Patrick Chea faced citizens? arrest on similar suspicion, but was immediately released after they were convinced he did not poison their well.

Elder Chea, former Chairman of the Kpan Community was held briefly by community members on claim made by a little boy that he threw something deadly into their well. But Mr. Chea and his son-in-law drank water from the well in the presence of those suspecting, to demonstrate his innocence. He was immediately released.

The well owner had reported that his little son accused Mr. Chea of allegedly putting the deadly substance into the well. Earlier on Monday, another protest was reported in the morning along the New Georgia belt near Monrovia where residents reportedly set road blocks, demanding government?s intervention in the well-poisoning claims.

But the Police, however, have not spoken on the poison claims, during several engagements made with Spokesman Sam Collins.

Thank you for the real-time news sharing Burton! Without you, we would never know about this.
Why the suspects paid money for this? What's their purpose?

Your report is very vivid, Burton. Poisoning of wells is a serious threat for the users in the community. I hope & pray that this deadly practice is out rightly condemned & subsequently eradicated from Liberia.
All the best & let the culprits rot in prison for rest of their lives.
