In my previous article, I told about neem tree.  It grows in a moderate temperature.  Typically growing in tropical and semi-tropical regions. It needs less amount of water and care. Azadirachta indica, also known as Neem, Nimtree, and Indian Lilac is a tree in the mahogany family Meliaceae.

Scientific name            : Azadirachta indica

Rank                             : Species

Higher classification   : Azadirachta

For detailed read we can go through the following link.

The genus Azadirachta has two recognized species:

Azadirachta excelsa – grows mainly in Malaysia and Philippines. It has a number of uses including making furniture and home construction.

Azadirachta indica – called as Neem, economically important tree with multiple functions.

Today we see about  the another type of neem, it is called as Malai Vembu in our area. Malai Vembu is the fastest growing tree and the wood from this tree is used in Plywood Industry. The rooted saplings are planted onset of the monsoon or during the monsoon. Melia dubia (Malai Vembu in Tamil) is a promising tree highly suitable for farm forestry and agro forestry for generating higher income in the semi-arid regions. In Siddha, two other varieties of Neem – Malai vembu (Melia Dubia) and Nilavembu (Andrographis paniculata) – are being used for curing dengue. Neem has been popular in India for more than 2,000 years and it is called the ?Village Pharmacy? as it is an essential ingredient in Ayurvedic medicines that is popular in villages.

In my grandpas house he planted many neem saplings (malai vembu) for my green activities.
