Taking a step at a larger scale

"Be the change you wish to see in the world" - Mahatma Gandhi.

We often talk about spreading environmental awareness and as students and youngsters we try to do our best to contribute to saving mother earth.
But we all know, unless someone does not take a step further and take this awareness to another level, we won't get anywhere.
Through this article i'd like to tell you about one such company "The Change Initiative" which has taken this to another level.

The Change Initiative is the premier destination for sustainable living in the Middle East. They bring the community together with sustainable solutions through their simple but meaningful ethos: Live Good, Feel Good, Do Good.

Proudly home grown in Dubai, The Change Initiative aspires to be a global brand name in the sustainability space, providing a platform for solutions that promote responsible living. The Change Initiative welcomes consumers and corporations alike who are interested in making environmentally and socially responsible purchases, whether it is for their home, in the workplace or for a project under development.

They offer thousands of innovative B2B and B2C solutions such as Fair Trade food, energy efficient light bulbs, ecological detergents, organic clothing, and locally made soaps, low emitting paints and solar tubes.

I've visited The Change Initiative for a couple of workshop and was truly amazed to see how this company actually works. The building has parts of it's roof made of transparent material which prevents the use of lights during the day. The building they work in gets more than 50% of it's energy from solar panels and even the carpeting done has been done in a tile manner so that if any part of it gets spoilt, only the tile has to be changed, not the whole floor carpet! :D

They try to show and pass on the message of REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE as much as they can. They promote various ways of reducing waste and preserving resources like through the use of low-flow taps and bokashi bins.
They have furniture such as lanterns made out of old phone directories (see picture) and even sofa's made out of cardboard and nuts and bolts.

It's truly an inspiration seeing such steps being taken.                      (Website  - www.thechangeinitiative.com )

The Change Initiative "TCI" has got the highest LEED Platinum rating , achieved 107 points out of 110, making it the most sustainable commercial building in the world. I have visited it thrice already and everytime I learn something new. TCI doesn??t only provide environmentally-friendly solutions but it also practises what it preaches by incorporating all aspects of green building on its 4,000-square-metre structure from its roofing to energy-efficient lighting to its water system.TCI has more than 26 technologies, including solar panels and heat-reflective paint, on its roof that provides 40 per cent of the building??s energy requirements. Thanks for sharing your experience and view point on TCI.
