Raising the pitch on freshwater politics Gulf News Facebook debate

In the current times, it seems as if fossil fuels as a non-renewable global necessity has created much political conflict between nations even as supplies are rapidly dwindling .The United Nations released a report stating that by 2030, the world will suffer a 40 per cent decline in available water supplies.

This is only 15 years away and with each ticking second, time is slowly running out.

As part of the Gulf News Facebook debate, readers were asked to make a defense of their views on the motion:? Will water be the cause of the next major conflict in the world??

The following are my views on the topic.

"While it has long been speculated that water will be the cause of the next world war, the hype is not in equilibrium with the effort taken. With the water sources available for human usage said to deplete by 2030, time is fast running out.

The only way to properly combat this is through effective implementation of water conservation techniques, example restrictions on factory production, rainwater harvesting. According to the United Nations, one in nine people don't have access to improved sources of drinking water and one in three lack improved sanitation.

In this case, as in many others, it is often the poor who are the most disadvantaged lot, having to bear the brunt of others irresponsible actions. It is for this reason that it would be better to impose implementation measures in accordance with the level of consumption. This will not only help in the reduction of consumption but also in the conservation of water so that it may last for many generations to come, in its usable form."

I hope that  better decisons are made regarding the judicious use of resources in the future.

Yes we all need to save and conserve water. Authorities here are doing lot to spread awareness but I guess more water conservation techniques need to be put in place as you rightly stated.
I have been reading your views. Keep going.
