Hairy Caterpillar taking over the Seychelles

Seychelles is currently and has been in a bad situation for months now. These small but toxic hairy caterpillars has invaded the main island, Mahe, Praslin and La Digue.

These caterpillar leaves us with itchy rash when their hair comes into contact with our skin. They love our "Bodanmyen" trees, which is usually found near the beach. But of course, this isn't the only tree they like.

The caterpillars have been found at residents and public schools. The authorities has been trying their best to keep these caterpillar population under control. But what they are failing to let us is know is, what does the caterpillar develops into after that? No picture has been shown and Seychellois are getting worried.

Luckily, they are not poisonous and the rash are cured just by drinking antibiotics prescribed by the doctor of course.

@Kushal Ghimire & @Eco Generatiion - I really have no idea. Probably through customs / tourists / when the Seychellois people travel back home with plants and etc. What makes it more difficult for us the Seychelles is covered with forestry areas, how on earth will we be able to battle against these little hairy creatures??

It's really a horrible outbreak. I just hope that authorities take it on priority , study the issue in depth and start measures to eradicate and control it to stop it from further developing.
The way these creatures suddenly appeared gives clues that it could be linked to current environmental chaos .

I am praying that this situation would be directly addressed to the leaders of your country and hopefully the leaders there in your region will find a better solution for that.

Grim situation. Seems to be an environmental reason connected with their sudden swell of this insect.
All the best & we hope the authorities will soon find a solution.
You may also write in the local press & social media about this menace & maybe run a small campaign so that concerned authorities may take immediate action.

I googled the hairy caterpillars and wow...They look so...I don't want to imagine these hairy toxic balls are overflowing around me :S http://scribol.com/environment/10-beautiful-but-dangerously-toxic-caterpillars/1

Can global warming be one of the reasons?

That's bad news :( I'm wondering why so many numbers of hairy caterpillars are suddenly appears in the Seychelles. There might be an environmental reason. Please keep us posted when you find out the reason.
