Do you like Palm oil? Palm oil is edible vegetable oil from the fruit of the oil palms, which is used in food products. As people are already aware of what the monocultures of oil palm is harmful to environment in various ways.

The species of the Elaeis genus is mais source of palm oil, which has used about 5000years in Africa. However, the trees require wider cultivation, resulted in significant losses of forest, from which animals have been endangered as well as threatened a great biodiversity.

However, what's even worse is the research showed that the bird diversity in oil palm plantations has fewer species than even the cattle pasture. In fact, still Brazil posses 850,000 square miles of palm land.

In particular, northeastern state of Pará has increased at 2times bigger size between 2004 and 2010. Deforestation and plantation harvesting played a negative role in losing Pará's forest, which is about 8%of the state' total amount of tree cover.

It is the fact that preserving diverse tree species is the most important factor to maintain avian species diversity across all areas. Less number of the channel-billed toucan, the red-necked aracari and the white-bellied parrot have been recorded in main forests as endangered species.

It's sad to note that palm oil cultivation has contributed to deforestation and loss of birds diversity. Thanks for sharing , Luiz.
