Algeria was represented at the COP21 by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal who led an important official delegation.

Sellal outline the positions of Algeria about global warming and spread out the proposals of our country in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

As required by the regulations of the Climate Conference, our country has deposited its Intended nationally determined contribution with the UN Secretariat on 3 September 2015. The document explains that the environmental commitment of Algeria "covers the period 2021-2030 and mainly the sectors of energy, industry, transport, agriculture and forestry, environmental and other equally important sectors. "
This national program aims to contribute to "a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) emissions by 7-22% in 2030, dependent to supports from external funding, development and technology transfer and capacity building. The 7% GHG reduction will be achieved with national means. "

The Intended nationally determined contribution advocates the use of an energy mix and promoting renewable energy as part of "updating the national program for renewable energy and energy efficiency" adopted by the Council of Ministers on 24 May 2015.

The Algerian government aims "to reduce 9% of overall energy consumption by 2030 and aims to using thermal insulation in buildings and the conversion to LPG for one million private vehicles and more than 20,000 buses "and will "produce  27% of the national electricity from renewables energy by 2030" .

These objectives are achievable knowing that Algeria has one of the highest solar deposits in the world and has a major geothermal reservoir. On another scale, Algeria promises to strengthen its "national plan with an overall objective of reforestation of 1.245 million hectares" to improve carbon sequestration.
