YOUNG LEADER FOR BIODIVERSITY AT COP11 ==- ECOGEN AMBASSADOR ATTENDS AS INTERNATIONAL DELEGATE

It was a great honour to attend  COP11-(United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity ).  I received an invitation to attend CBD as a Young Leader for biodiversity and I was the youngest international delegate for this young leaders segment.

Biodiversity can be defined as the variability of life forms on earth and encompasses all ecosystems and ecological processes. This UN conference is held every two years and it seeks to draw global attention to the serious degradation and extinction of species due to the callousness of us humans . You would be shocked to know that  the current rate of extinction is 100 times more than the last century == hence it is very important for all of us to protect and preserve our biological diversity.

I was not only an active participant in the workshops but I was also the youngest and the only overseas child participant, in this group of young leaders,  to give a presentation on  my projects on the conservation of biodiversity. I shared my views and vision with other youth members. It was a great learning experience for me.

At the exhibition centre, I got to display charts elaborating on my international conservation projects and it drew an overwhelming response from the thousands of visitors at this UN conference. We also did something very unique which was presented to the ministerial delegates at the high level meetings. At the workshop , we were divided into various groups such as general biodiversity, marine biodiversity and land biodiversity. We had to write down our ideas about==WHAT I WILL DO AS A LEADER AND WHAT I WANT TO DO ON SEPARATE CHARTS BASED ON OUR DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE AICHI TARGETS,  which were then clubbed together and presented to the ministers.

We were given a huge canvas and all the participants expressed our views on how to protect our biodiversity through art. It was an amazing experience. We, then, put our handprints on the canvas in order to showcase  our solidarity with the movement.

I, also,  gave a presentation about my work which was very well accepted.

The greatest realisation for me was that == WE YOUTH ARE ONE. WE ARE FIGHTING FOR OUR MOTHER EARTH. HENCE, WE SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE.

I also visited the UNEP booth at the exhibition.

I shall now carry forward this message to the children and youth here.

I attended this UN conference with my TUNZA ECOGENERATION AMBASSADOR T-SHIRT which drew a lot of attention. Thank you Ecogen!!
