Road to ASEAN Economic Community 2015 |

Thailand - In Chulalongkorn University (CU), there was an ASEAN Youth Exchange Program that gathered university students all around ASEAN countries to share the knowledge and experiences on 3 intertwined pillars, which are political-security, economic, and socio-cultural.The program aims to promote greater awareness about the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and enhance the participation as well as integration of ASEAN youth to achieve the goal of ASEAN as "One Vision, One Identity, One Community".
AEC itself is the goal of regional economic integration by 2015 with free trade in goods, free trade in services, free flow of skilled labors, free flow of investment and a freer flow of capital. ASEAN has been making various areas of cooperation both within the region and with the dialogue partners. Dr. Sineenat Sermcheep as the Lecturer and Assistant to the Dean Faculty of Economics CU gave introduction on Thailand?s economic condition facing the coming AEC, while Dr. Piti Srisangnam as Deputy-Director for Academic Affairs, ASEAN Studies Center and the Assistant to the Dean Faculty of Economic CU explained more about global situation and purposed program toward AEC. In this lecture, Vania Santoso was selected to give thank you speech for lecturers. She underlined that every country may encounter various threats upon new changing environment ahead. But if the ASEAN countries can unite as a single community, there will be a way to explore more on every country?s potential strengths to change obstacles to be opportunities for making the region fully integrated happen into global economy. In the end, Vania also highlighted the importance of considering environmental aspect in every country as the competitive advantage to build a well-prepared AEC in facing sustainable development goals 2015. |
