Green Fine of 100 crore!

by | 03-04-2013 21:56 recommendations 0

Apex court slaps green fine on Vedanta firm!

Sterlight would have to pay 100 crore Rupees ! Yes, The Vedanta Group has been asked to pay an amount of Rs. 100 crore for carrying out practices that were harming the environment.
.
Vedanta Group's  (British)  company Sterlight Industries has been fined by the Supreme Court. It has been found guilty for creating a huge amount of pollution in Tamil Nadu (a south Indian state). Copper was being melted in a way that created oozes of pollution that turned nearly life threatening.[400,000 tonnes copper produced form Sterlite Tuticorn plant per year.]
.
People residing near the plant often faced problems like sore throat, suffocation and eye irritation.
.
The Supreme Court stated that such fines and punishments would create a sense of responsibility and care, even if that develops due to fear, and would compel these companies to adopt eco friendly means.
.
This could really work wonders if all companies and industries switch to greener methods and help maintain the purity of environmental resources. This verdict of Supreme Court is expected to have a considerable change in the mindset of the non caring ones!
.
Although this is a green step and is really worth appreciating but can those 100 crore rupees or even more can undo the pollution that was created by the industry? Money can't buy everything and thus, we need some more green steps to be taken by our government!

this is step for green future and its necessary to warn others as well.
its simply internalization of externalities, yes money cant buy everything but will help people to recover from what they have suffered from, if government spends upon the victims..
