UAE has added another feather to its cap by introducing to the world its first solar air plane that completed its first, round the world journey, totally fossil fuel free.

Solar Impulse 2 has redefined the science and its technology as it dawned in Abu Dhabi successfully completing its round-the-world flight. Apart from air  Solar Impulse's clean technologies can be used also on the ground, and have the potential to change way of living. The clean technologies developed by the partners of Solar Impulse, the Switzerland-based organisation, for its ground-breaking solar plane can reduce up to 50 per cent of annual carbon emissions globally. These technologies can be transitioned towards the successful development of solutions to solve everyday problems. They can replace old, polluting systems, with energy-efficient technologies used in electricity networks, home insulation, food storage, automobiles and industrial processes. This clean tech revolution on the ground will be the ultimate legacy of Solar Impulse 2?s solar-powered global flight.

Swiss pilots, Mr Piccard and his co-pilot Andre Borschberg started their epic journey that was sponsored by MASDAR in March 2015. They flew more than 40,000 kilometres and for more than 500 hours during 16 legs of the journey.

Even though there has been a delay of nine months but that proved to be a blessing in disguise for the pilots as it brought them close to the mysteries of nature and human attitude towards it.

Solar Impulse completed its circumnavigation using only solar energy, after what proved to be the one of the journey?s most difficult legs, as pilot Bertrand Piccard had to battle turbulence throughout the flight.

After Solar Impulse 2 arrived back in Abu Dhabi, Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg, spoke of their hopes for the future of solar power and for sustainable energy to be implemented in meaningful ways.

Another factor that led to the success of the Solar Impulse fuel free journey, was the right nutrition taken by pilots. Meals were planned according to the altitudes that the plane flew at. At night as the solar powered plane lost weight meals were protein rich. Due to limited energy constraint on the board there was no device to warm or refrigerate food so pilots developed a new cooking and sterilizing method  to keep the food fresh for up to 3 months. It was packaged in self- warming pouches. None of the food on board was wasted ?40% of the food is wasted around the world but the way the pilots consumed food nutritiously, it?s a message for everyone on how to reduce food wastage.

The message is clear – there is no limit to the boundaries of technology. By controlling the sky on the power of sunlight alone, Solar impulse has affirmed the power of technology to achieve the impossible. It is the solution to environmental challenges like climate change, leading to improvements in energy efficiency.
