Hi everyone! My name is Lisa Zaretskaya and I live and study in Taiwan (as I told before). I would like to draw your attention to my second report.

My second attempt to promote TUNZA Eco-generation in the local community was in Taichung (officially known as Taichung City) on September 24th, 2017. This city is located in center-western Taiwan. Taichung has a population of approximately 2.78 million people and has been officially ranked as Taiwan's second most populous city since July 2017. I was invited to the Russian school Matreshka to give presentations to children about some environmental issues.

In this city, I met one scientist who studies aquaponics and he is an owner-operator at Innofarmer Organic tea – Taiwan. Aquaponics refers to any system that combines conventional aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as snails, fish, crayfish or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water) in a symbiotic environment. In normal aquaculture, excretions from the animals being raised can accumulate in the water, increasing toxicity. In an aquaponic system, water from an aquaculture system is fed to a hydroponic system where the by-products are broken down by nitrifying bacteria initially into nitrites and subsequently into nitrates, which are utilized by the plants as nutrients, and the water is then recirculated back to the aquaculture system.

This scientist has already created an aquaponic systems in one school in the city of Taichung. I would like to propose to the director of our school to create the same systems. It is my dream.

The presentation at Tamkang University (Taiwan) is my third attempt to promote TUNZA Eco-generation in the local community. Today it was in Russian, because I was doing a presentation for the students who are studying at the faculty of the Russian language. The presentation took place at the Russian department of Tamkang University on September 25th, 2017. It was not very difficult because my native language is Russian. The dean gave me a certificate that I held a presentation for students.

At first I again explained what TUNZA Eco-generation is, when it appeared, who the members and ?The 19th Eco-generation Regional Ambassadors are. Unfortunately, there is no TUNZA branch in Taiwan, but there are many organizations that deal with environmental issues. For example, one of the biggest organizations is the Taiwan Environmental Protection Union (http://www.tepu.org.tw/). I inform students that in November, 2017 there is an International workshop Achievements and Challenges in Conservation of Pacific Salmon in the 21st Century. I advised them to go there, because they also study environmental issues, but in Russian.

I also invited students to an interesting event that is currently taking place in the capital of Taiwan, Taipei. It is ?Wild view Taiwan Film Festival?, which takes place at Taipei Confucius Temple. It is well known that environmental issues have been a major concern of Confucianism, so the film festival seeks to raise awareness on the importance of sustainability and environmental ethics. This year?s Wild View Taiwan Film Festival will present a total of 16 movies about nature and wildlife. The screenings will be followed by seminars on related topics featuring film introductions, unique perspectives, and interaction between the audience, literary critics, and ecologists. Professor thanked me for my presentation, because it was a very good practice for students.

Hi, Lisa! :) Again, it's really exciting to see that you've been actively promoting Tunza Eco-Generation. It's even more impressive you've already made three presentations this month, and in different languages as well! I hope you keep up the good work! Also, thank you for introducing the subject of aquaponics to us.
