by Kushal Naharki | 27-08-2020 06:01 recommendations 0

Although Nepal produces only 0.027% of the global green house gases, Nepal is fourth vulnerable nation in terms of effects of climate change. Seeing the likehood of climate change related disasters, it is necessary to build a climate resilient communities and aware people about causes, impacts, adaptation and mitigation of climate change.

A project on ¡°Improving Climate Resilience of Vulnerable Communities and Ecosystems in the Gandaki River Basin, Nepal¡± was in pipeline since 2018 and was approved by Green Climate Fund on 21st August 2020. Total project value of the project is USD 32.7 Million, out of which USD 27.4 Million will be financed as grant by Green Climate Fun and rest of the amount can be co-financed by domestic stakeholders. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), a GCF accredited entity, and the Ministry of Forest and Environment will jointly implement the project which targets 19 districts in Gandaki, Bagmati and Province 5 of Nepal.

This project aims to benefit 1.9 million people and avoid the emission of 847k tonnes over the period of 7 years to mainstream and operationalize a sustainable river-basin approach for watershed management by building climate resilience of both vulnerable communities and ecosystems in the Gandaki River Basin. The result areas on the projects falls under Ecosystem and Ecosystem services, Forest and Land Use, Health Food and Water Security, and Livelihoods of people and communities.

Nepal has secured its first significant funding from the Green Climate Fund for a project ¡®Building Resilient Churia Region in Nepal (BRCRN)¡¯ in November 2019 and this is the second project in Nepal under Green Climate Fund. It is necessary for building a climate resilient communities and sustainable projects along with all the nations pursuing their efforts to meet Paris Agreement to reduce the increase in Carbondioxide and mitigate Climate Change

Hi Kushal Naharki, this is a mentor, Sang Su Lee.

It is so unfair that such countries (developing) are affected heavily by other countries (mostly developed countries). I really hope that all countries in the world cooperate to fight against climate change. I believe that this can be done because we are the ones who prevented ozone hole problem.

    Green cheers~
